Snapchat keeps getting better: Discover tutorial

Thought you liked the Snapchat app? It just keeps getting better and it’s easy to use! Since Snapchat introduces Discover, you and your friends get to experience the different perspectives through stories and snaps. Instead of showing the topics and stories that are most popular on social media, Snapchat collaborates with several media companies, editors and artists to select the most important stories.

Discover is easy to use. When you open the app, you automatically go to the camera screen. From there, tap on the bottom right to go to Stories. Then, tap the top right to go to Discover. Here you see a variety of editions in which you can find fun and important stories for you to read. For example: MTV, CNN, Cosmopolitan, People, National Geographic, Daily Mail and Yahoo News. You can click on a logo to see the articles they’ve posted today. Swipe up to read the complete article, swipe to the left to see more articles and swipe down to go back to the main menu. The articles in every edition are refreshed every 24 hours. Discover your favorite editions and you won’t have to miss any more fun and important stories!

Adding friends on Snapchat

When you want to add a friend on Snapchat or if a friend wants to add you, there are several possibilities for you to connect.

When you open the Snapchat app and you enter the camera screen, tap on the Snapchat ghost on top of your screen. Now you see the page where you can manage your friend list.

When a friend wants to add you, all he or she has to do is point their camera on your Ghost and tap on their screen (while they’re using their Snapchat app of course). For more information you can click on the question mark on the top left of the page where you can manage your friend list in the app.

You can also add a friend manually, by searching for username or by selecting a friend from the contact list on your mobile device.

When a friend has added you, you will be able to see this in the ‘Added Me’ page in the app. There you can tap the + icon next to the friend you also want to add and it’s done! Now you’re able to send your friend a Snap.

Finally, you can check out your complete friends list on the Snapchat app. The friends you contact most frequently will automatically become your Best Friends on Snapchat. The list normally contains up to three people, but you can change the number of best friends that are displayed in the settings. The list is updated every seven days.

Snapchat introduces new feature: ‘Discover’

Snapchat keeps growing every day! And to make sure that the app stays up to date with the latest trends, Snapchat is going to join forces with a few media companies. The goal of this collaboration is to provide the app with journalistic articles, pictures and videos. According to the New York Times, this new part of the app is going to be called ‘Discover’.

CNN, National Geographic, Vice, Yahoo and ESPN are rumored to be among the companies that are going to supply text, imagery and videos especially for this new Snapchat feature. According to Digiday, Snapchat has also hired their own journalists, animators and video producers to create journalistic productions.

In addition to all of this, Snapchat has approached some significant consumer brands to put advertisement in the new part of the app. The ads will be placed in line with the editorial articles, videos and imagery. The proceeds will be divided between Snapchat and the participating media companies.

With the new feature ‘Discover’, Snapchat has chosen a new path for their app. Keep checking this website for more exciting updates, and as always, happy snapping!

Sending money with snapchat via Snapcash!

Today Snapchat introduced a service in the United States that allows all it’s users to send money to each other. It’s really easy all users have to do is type $ sign followed by the number in into the chat and they’ll be able to send money to each other. They call it Snapcash and it’s really awesome!

Only in the United States

The service currently links only to Debit Cards and not to Credit cards. The service uses Square to handle the transactions and is a great way for Snapchat users to send small amounts of money to each other.

Outside of the United States

It’s currently not known wether Snapchat will roll out this service outside of the United States. But we’re really hoping it will via Stripe. Stripe is currently available in Canada and Japan while expanding to other countries.

Snapchat Video

Snapchat made a really cool video highlighting all of the new payment options which you can watch below. Let us know what you think about this payment feature in the comments and if you have any videos to share about it link them below in the comments!

Can’t login to snapchat?

There are several reasons why users can’t login to snapchat. The most common one is when they lose their password. Other reasons can include using third party apps that might change your password or just plain forgetting it.

I suddenly can’t login

That sucks, first thing you need to do is to make sure your account is safe and hasn’t been hacked. Have you recently given your snapchat password to anybody? Did you receive any weird emails asking you for your password? Companies never ask you for your password via email or texts. And because most users have the same password for multiple services if you made the mistake to give away your password multiple accounts might be compromised.

This is why it’s always a safe bet to not only reset or change your password for snapchat but to do that with multiple services.

Resetting / recovering your password

It’s fairly easy to do this. All you have to do is go to the official Snapchat website and fill in the email address you used to login. If you don’t know which email you used then try using your most common email.

snapchat password reset

Besides this step you’ll also have to prove you are a human by confirming it. Many websites do this to make sure there’s not a machine trying to steal your identity.

Once you do this you will receive an email from Snapchat with instructions and a link on how to reset your password.

Third party apps

If instead of using the official Snapchat app you used third party apps like SnapSave or SnapChatter then you might have a bigger problem. These applications probably store your information and if they get hacked then your information might be compromised. The best thing to do in this situation is also to reset your password using the above tips. If you’re looking for more ways to protect yourself then check out our Snapchat Safety Tips!

Snapchat Safety

Snapchat has over a 100 million active users. You would think that when an app has this many users, it wouldn’t be possible to keep all these private photo’s, clips and chats from leaking, right? Wrong. The API (Application Programming Interface) that is used in Snapchat is safe and will not leak your private information to others. In the past few weeks, however, several media have suggested that over 200.000 Snaps have been leaked; therefore a lot of intimate images of (under aged) users are now open to the public.

Now here’s how that happened: the API that is used in Snapchat can be accessed by third-party applications. These are applications that are not built or maintained by the company that built Snapchat, but they do offer additional services to Snapchatters. For these additional services to work, these third-party applications often ask for Snapchat login credentials. When a user enters his or her Snapchat login credentials, they enable developers (potential criminals) to access their account information and use them to send or receive Snaps.

In this article, we’d like to give an example of a third-party app such as mentioned above: the iOS app ‘SnapSave’. This app allows users to save snaps to their device, even though this is not what Snaps were meant for by the terms of Snapchat. To save a Snap to their device, users must first log in to SnapSave with their Snapchat login credentials. When a Snap is saved, the person who sent it does not get a notification; while in Snapchat, a user gets notified when the receiving Snapchatter makes a screenshot of their Snap. Even though the description of the app in the App Stores might say that files and login information are not saved on a server, this information is accessible for developers who could access account information and use them to send or receive Snaps.

To make sure that your Snaps stay private and that Snapchatters stay safe, Snapchat is currently working on building ‘an open and trustworthy third-party application ecosystem’. Until this is finished, any application that is not built by the same company that has built Snapchat but does offer the same services, pose a possible threat to the privacy of Snaps. For Snapchatters to be safe, this means that they should never log in to third-party applications with their Snapchat login credentials.

There is a long list of third-party applications that could pose a threat to the privacy of your Snapchat account information. So how do you make sure you avoid using these third-party applications?

  • First: Check if the app is using the Snapchat logo. If it isn’t, it’s not legit.
  • Second: Make sure you don’t use apps that are not built by Snapchat Inc. So before you download an app, check the details of the app and look for information about the developer.
  • And finally: If you think you can use a third-party application but you’re not sure, do some research! For instance, Google for user reviews or look up blogs about the app. If it seems shady or if people have bad experiences with it, do not use it!
